SWAT officer Trick Mathews is a patient guy, but Grace’s inability to see what’s right in front of her is grinding on his last nerve. Yeah, he blew his shot at breaking out of the friend zone when he tamped down the urge to lick her from head to toe the day they met, but he’s got a plan that’ll change her mind. Incognito at Salem's hottest Halloween party, he’ll show her exactly how good they could be…and that he’s the man for her.
What I Liked:
You all know how much I LOVE Brazen books. Literally every time Brazen has a publication day for any of its new titles, I have to hold myself back. I can't afford to buy all of them, but oh how I would like to... a lot of times, I buy them way on sale. Like this one - more than a year after its publication, it was free, I believe, for a day. You can't go wrong with free. I didn't love the book, but I didn't dislike it either!
Trick Matthews has been in love with his friend Grace for quite some time, but she doesn't see him that way (or so he thinks). He thinks that she only sees him as a player, a guy bouncing between different women. But that's not the case, because Trick has been in love with Grace, and won't give up. Grace, on the other hand, has been nursing her wounds as a single lady, never seeming to find the right guy. Sure, her best friend Trick is hot... but he's her best friend. Too bad she has no idea how much he wants her.
I like these types of stories - two best friends fall for each other, or are already in love, but need something to make them realize that they're not alone in their feelings. Trick finally does something, and disguises himself for a Halloween party. He and Grace do the deed... but she has no idea that it's Trick. She is totally into it, and wants more from "Catman". Little does she know!
The author definitely dials up the steamy in this book. A true Brazen novel, this one does not like in the physicality of the romance aspect. But, the love story is really there as well. I liked seeing Grace fall for "Catman", and eventually, realize her feelings for Trick.
I really like Trick. Grace is cool, but Trick is probably my favorite. He's actually super sweet, thoughtful, considerate, and extremely sexy. Obviously the ones in uniform are the good ones, right? Perhaps...
Overall, I liked the romance, and the sizzling chemistry. This type of romance - the best friend type - is one of my favorites, as long as it's developed, and there is no love triangle. None of that in this novel!
What I Did Not Like:
I think this story could have benefited from more pages. It felt very short, like there could have been more in the very beginning, between Grace and Trick. THEN there could be Grace and "Catman", and THEN she finds out. But I wanted more scenes from Grace and Trick.
Also, Grace's business with her friend - that wasn't nearly as present/significant in this book as I had thought it would be. For some reason, I thought it would have come into play at some point in the book, besides being the reason that Grace went to the party.
Finally, I think there could have been more depth to this book, more sentimentality. I didn't really feel much towards Trick besides omg-he-sounds-smoking. Grace, more so, because she had a terrible ex-boyfriend, and this is pretty significant in the novel. Maybe I just wanted more personal scenes between Grace and Trick. Maybe more in general, from the depth.
Would I Recommend It:
I liked this one, but it definitely isn't my favorite Brazen novel. I enjoyed the read!

Dirty Trick A Perfectly Matched Novel Book 1 edition by Christine Bell Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
I'm always a sucker for a good Entangled book, especially from their Brazen line. Thankfully Dirty Trick did not disappoint. It's told in the dual POVs of Grace and Trick and is one of my favorite, favorite, favorite types of love stories, the friends to lovers that always make me swoon the hardest. Grace and Trick are extremely close on top of being neighbors. He, all too late, realizes that the feelings he's having mean 'she's the one'. But Grace has already written him off as a player due to the steady stream of girls he brought home the first few months after she moved into the neighborhood. So being a man in love, he does whatever it takes to change her mind about him.
***She'd had more than her fair share of bad relationships, and her ex-fiance hadn't just broken her heart. He'd obliterated it.
I really liked Grace. She has a lot of baggage due to a real winner of an ex who really did a number on her head. Needless to say, understandably, Grace has quite a few trust issues. But it's in a very endearing sort of way, one that makes her just that much more likable. I also feel like it gives her a very relatable vibe. It was fun to see the changes in her as her confidence built and she went from timid and questioning herself constantly to putting herself out there and taking risks.
***"Nope. Not my real voice. I was going for sexy and mysterious. Is it working?"
Trick Mathews. Wow. I have two words for you. Swat. Officer. Take a moment to go wipe the drool from your chin. I know I had to! Don't get me wrong, as you read in the description he pulls a pretty sneaky move to try to get himself out of the friend zone and I do realize that. But really what he does is with the best of intentions and it was never to hurt Grace. He's just this incredibly sexy, super sweet guy who'd do anything to get the girl he loves. I am smitten!
***"What do you mean by special? Derek has a nine-inch--"
***"I'm pretty sure I don't want to hear the rest of that sentence."
I love when books have a very bold and outspoken best friend who speaks her mind no matter who she's talking to. Serena fits that role with perfection. She's very flirtatious and funny. Of course I'd probably die a million times over if I had a friend as bold as her in real life.
***He stared at her with a puzzled but patient smile. "I want your cock...a doodly doo....in-inside my p--lady area...business," she expelled in a rush.
There were plenty of giggle worthy moments as well as you can see. Aside from a couple of references and lines that were just odd or felt like they were trying too hard here and there (and honestly there weren't that many), I feel like this was a very well rounded book. Funny, sad, sexy as all hell, even a little bit of angst. I had a really hard time putting it down and it kept me sucked in to the very last sentence just dying for these two to make it work.
Grace and her best friend Serena run their own matchmaking business called Love Will Find a Way. Their business is on the verge of becoming something great and to make sure it really takes off, they plan to attend the biggest Halloween party in town to gain more clientele. Enter her other best friend and neighbor Trick, who offers to be her plus one at the party. Grace politely declines and instead her and Serena attend together without dates.
Trick, a Police Officer who is on the SWAT Team has known Grace for at least a year. He’s tall, charming, and extremely sexy. And he just so happens to have a reputation for being a little bit of a ladies man. Even though Grace finds herself attracted to Trick, she believes things will only end in heartbreak for her if they pursue a relationship. So she is content with being just friends. Trick, however wants more than friendship. And in an effort to make Grace see the light, he gets an idea to go to the party anyways disguised as a “Catman”. His plan is to basically hit it off with her at the party disguised, in hopes that she will see how good they would be together if she just gave him a chance. Needless to say, everything does not go as planned.
Dirty Trick was a fun story to read over the weekend. The beginning started out really nice and the characters were easy to like and get into. And I really liked how I got the POV’s from both Grace and Trick. It was sweet, sexy, and short. Though to me, the story seemed to drag a little towards the end and it could have been shorter. It felt like there was a lot of internal debate going on between these two and I just wished they would have talked that much about their feelings to each other instead of themselves. Having said that, it was still a good story and I enjoyed the ending.
